This is the twentieth issue of the journal published under the present Editor. The photo above marks the last Mass celebrated by Father McGavin in the Parish of Taralga in the Archdiocese of Canberra and Goulburn, ending 8 years there as pastor. “PP” is not found after the Editor’s name at page 1 in this issue, as the Archbishop of Canberra and Goulburn generously granted a year’s sabbatical leave, 1 July 2009 to 30 June 2010. Father McGavin is thus an internationally mobile priest this year, with extened times in Addis Ababa (Ethiopia), Rome, and Jerusalem, and an extensive writing/editing program.
His book, P A McGavin, Economic Language in Luke-Acts: a theological and economic reading of the Lukan text, was recently published by Lambert Academic Publishing of Koln, Germany.
His article on the latest papal encyclical Caritas in Veritate appeared in L’Osservatore Romano of 16 September 2009 (see page 13, above). The next of several projects is editing the won- derful reatreat addresses of Bishop Basil Meeking under the title, Water for the Parched Earth: priestly conferences in commemo- ration of the Year for Priests, with publicaiton being sought with Ignatius Press for late 2010. In the northern hemisphere second semester of 2009-2010, Dr McGavin is to teach Eucharist and two Scripture subjects at the Major Seminary in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, as part of an “African experience”.
David Birch, our Associate Editor has also been active in “flying the flag” for the journal, with L’Osservatore Romano articles on St Thomas More and St John Fisher published on 17 June 2009, and on the Ven. John Henry Newman published on 23 September 2009.
